Global economic pressure and environmental issues point to Oil & Gas as one of the industries facing the most demanding challenges in today’s world. The use of this satellite-based monitoring applications has proven to be valuable for oil companies that use it to improve efficiency for the management and monitoring of routes and oil tankers, as well as to search for new exploration sites and monitor assets in remote and often inaccessible areas. Radar satellites also represent a comprehensive solution for public administrations such as EMSA (European Maritime Safety Agency) that operates in this field with the aim of containing the damages and effectively monitoring the marine environment. Private oil companies also use Geoinformation to manage and monitor the assets and the facilities scattered in the remote areas of the globe. The integration of different techniques such as the use of radar satellites with high revisit times (i.e. COSMO-SkyMed) and "classic" land monitoring sensors based on differential GPS technology, renders monitoring more effective, ensuring consistent and precise measurements for areas of different sizes.
