From January 14, 2018, the Philippines' most active volcano Mount Mayon, located on the large island of Luzon continues to manifest repeated dangerous eruptions that have caused the evacuation of tens of thousands of residents from the danger zone.
The alert level remains at "4" on the government's 5-point scale due to the danger of volcanic activities, prohibiting authorities from allowing the return of the evacuees.
The Emergency Mapping team of e-GEOS provided the present map which shows the Lava Flow and Ash fall delineation in the area of Mayon Volcano (Philippines). The thematic layer has been derived from post-event satellite image by means of visual interpretation. The estimated geometric accuracy is 20 m CE90 or better, from native positional accuracy of the background satellite image.
Map based on Sentinel-2 image and on 2 COSMO-SkyMed interferometric analysis
Inset 1 (yellow box) Sentinel-2:
Delatil of volcano caldera. The band combinations in order to highlight the new lava flow is:
RED:12
GREEN: 11
BLUE: 4
Inset 2 (red box) COSMO-SkyMed:
Multitemporal SAR coherence analysis (MTC). The MTC image was produced using
SARMAP SARscape COTS software.
The changes showed are related to the interval between the two images used (16 - 28
January 2018). The band combinations in order to highlight the changes in the lava flow is:
RED: Amplitude, 16/01/2018 21:32
GREEN: Amplitude, 28/01/2018 21:32
BLUE: Coherence
